Chirantan is largely concerned about the Hindu Cremation System. In traditional Hindu cremations, the body is placed atop a pile of wood. The corpse is then covered with more wood and burned in the open air. It takes a lot of wood to burn a body. This method requires as much as 600 Kg of wood to burn a single corpse, a process that can take as long as six hours. The demand for funeral pyres strips the country of more than 50 million trees annually, according to some estimates. Cremations also release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. And the body parts sometimes dumped into rivers and streams add further toxicity to water that is already badly polluted.

The Reality…
As per the statistics, the present Indian population is about 102 crores. The death rate is 11 per 1000. That is nearly 1, 10, 00,000 people die each year. Almost 66, 00,000 trees are cut every year for cremation. That amounts to nearly 30, 00,000 Metric Tons of wood or a forest cover of 5, 500 hectors of land. Unfortunately, the tree plantation ratio is very low.
This massive deforestation has disturbed the ecological balance. The traditional cremation gives out foul smell, ash, and smoke. One cremation on wood generates nearly 50 Kg of ash. The smoke and the ash are the polluting agents that pollute air and water.

The Solution…
After careful study of Hindu cremation and its adverse effects on the environment, we, at Chirantan, have developed safe, pollution free, and low cost Diesel / LPG cremators, and incinerators. The entire operation of the cremator or the incinerator is eco friendly and easy. Cremating a body traditionally could be expensive for the economically backward. But with Chirantan’s Diesel / LPG cremator the cost of a cremation is practically affordable. Above all, respecting people’s emotions, the entire process of cremation is carried out with dignity and respect.

The Final Word…
Trees and natural resources conservation is a sensitive issue. Chirantan’s work is two-fold; creating awareness in people and help they preserve the natural resources with its range of products. So far, there are over thirty installations of Chirantan’s Diesel / LPG cremators at various places including, Thane, Mumbai, Pune, Pen, Aurangabad, Raipur and so on. In these cremators, over 27, 000 cremations have been successfully carried out.
At Chirantan, one never compromises on the quality of services provided.
